Does a Manzilian Hurt? An Honest Answer Before You Book

You've thought about it. You've googled it. And the question that keeps stopping you from booking is the one almost nobody answers honestly: does it hurt?

Short answer: yes — for about the length of the appointment, and way less than you've built it up to be. Here's the real version, from a studio that does these all week.

What it actually feels like

A Manzilian removes hair from the front and the back. Each pass is a quick sting — sharp, immediate, and over in a second. Clients usually describe it like pulling off a particularly stubborn band-aid, in a sensitive spot, repeatedly. The most sensitive moments are typically the first few passes; after that your skin calms down and the rhythm of it makes the rest easier.

What it does not feel like: the full-duration agony that forums would have you believe. The sting is moment-per-moment, not constant. Most first-timers' verdict afterward is some version of "that was it?"

The honest pain scale

  • First Manzilian: the most uncomfortable one you'll ever get. The hair is at its strongest and your skin has never experienced it.
  • Second and third: noticeably easier. The hair grows back finer and comes out easier.
  • Maintenance (every 4–6 weeks): most regulars say it barely registers. That's the long game — it genuinely gets easier every time.

How to make your first one hurt less

  1. Let the hair get to ¼ inch. Too short and the wax can't grip (you'll need a re-wax); too long and each pass hurts more.
  2. Skip the gym that morning. Arrive clean, dry, and not pre-sensitized from a workout. We'll handle the rest with a cleanse before we start.
  3. Avoid alcohol the night before. It tightens skin and makes everything sting more. Save the liquid courage — you won't need it.
  4. Breathe out on the pull. Exhaling during each pass genuinely reduces the sting. Sounds like yoga nonsense; works anyway.
  5. Book the timing right. Not right after a long hot shower, not right after shoveling snow. A calm, warm-skinned, un-rushed you is a lower-pain you.

Things nobody tells men before their first Manzilian

  • The back part is easier than you fear — and way less awkward than you're imagining. It's routine, quick, and we do it all day.
  • Nothing about you is a surprise. Whatever your body is doing, it's normal. Judgment-free is the entire point of this studio.
  • Redness for a few hours is normal. Mild pinkness settles within a day. Exfoliate from 48 hours on, moisturize daily, and you're set.
  • The results outlast the appointment by weeks. Smooth for 3–4+ weeks, finer regrowth each time — versus shaving every day or two.

What it costs

Manzilians start at $75 — the full menu is on our prices & services page. Compare that with the time and irritation budget of a lifetime of shaving and it tends to make its own argument.

Book it (nobody's going to make it weird)

Booking is private and online: hours, phone, and booking here. If you've got questions you'd rather ask than read about, call the studio at (970) 581-4883 — real person, no judgment, straight answers. Read the full Manzilian service page for prep and aftercare details.
